Extreme weather may affect ride start times or cause ride cancellation (see FAQs for more information). Ride start time changes and cancellations will be broadcast to members. However, some ISPs (e.g. AOL) are occasionally unreliable. Members should visit the web site's online schedule for the most up-to-date ride start times or call the Ride Leader, when these weather conditions are present. The rides scheduled by the Morris Area Freewheelers are for members and guests. Anyone unsure about joining the club is welcome to ride as a guest accompanied or not by a club member. After one ride, guests are asked to make a decision about club membership. Minors (under 18) are allowed on club rides if accompanied by a parent or guardian club member. The minor must stay with the sponsoring club member during the ride. A PROPERLY FITTING BICYCLE HELMET MEETING CPSC STANDARDS MUST BE WORN WHILE RIDING CLUB RIDES. Be a Responsible and Courteous Member: - Scheduled ride times are starting times. Please arrive at the starting point 20-30 minutes before the start time.
- For insurance reasons, riders are required to sign-in before the ride.
- The ride leader may not be at the ride start if there is an adverse weather condition at the start point near the scheduled starting time. It is the rider's responsibility to verify the status of the ride. The ride leader's phone number is listed in the ride schedule (after you log in).
- Bring a spare tube, patch kit, pump, and one or more full water bottles. If there are no food stops available on the ride, you should also bring lunch, or a snack.
- Make sure that your bicycle is in good condition, and that you know how to ride it properly, before the ride. If you just purchased a new bike, take it on a test ride before going on a club ride.
- Riders must obey the motor vehicle and bicycle laws of the state(s) in which the ride occurs. This includes the use of hand signals.
- Always call out and point to hazards. E.g. hole!, rough road!, car back!, glass! etc. Don't be shy, you may be saving someone from injury.
- Never call out "Clear!" at an intersection. Conditions can change for the following riders faster than you think.
- Don't be a mystery rider. Call out your intentions, e.g. 'slowing', 'stopping', etc. Use hand signals.
- Please inform the ride leader or, if it's not possible, another rider if you're injured or if you're leaving the ride.
- Ride as if you were invisible. Don't assume anyone else can see you.
