Can a ride be cancelled or can the ride time be changed?

It is the prerogative of the ride leader to cancel a ride based on weather conditions on the morning of the ride. If, for example, precipitation is present or imminent, or the temperature is very cold or very hot, members should call the ride leader to find out if the ride has been canceled.

At his discretion, the Ride Coordinator may broadcast weather-related time changes or advance cancellations for rides, if requested by the ride leader. In deciding whether to approve such a request, the following guidelines will be applied:

  • Time changes or advance cancellations will only be broadcast if temperatures are predicted to be extreme or the predicted probability of precipitation is very high during the anticipated ride period
  • Accuweather.com’s predictions for the area of the ride’s Start Point will be the source used to judge the appropriateness of a proposed time change or cancellation
  • Extreme temperatures mean:
    • above 95 degrees
    • below 30 degrees
    • Real Feel® 100 degrees or higher
  • A very high probability of precipitation means 50% or higher
  • A request to broadcast a ride time change or cancellation must be transmitted to the RC by 6 PM the day before. Even if a timely request is made, it is possible that the RC will be unable to consider the request. If no email broadcast is sent out, then the ride time change or cancellation is not effective.
  • Time changes are not permitted for evening rides.
