Welcome!

Formed in 1982, the Morris Area Freewheelers Bicycle Club is an all volunteer organization dedicated to promoting all aspects of group road cycling.

We offer about 1400 scheduled and ad-hoc rides at various paces, all year long, throughout Northwestern New Jersey with some rides into Pennsylvania, New York State and Manhattan. The beauty and variety of our tours are unsurpassed.

We have six social events per year that are informative and a lot of fun.  Anyone unsure about joining is welcome as a guest for a ride. Give us a try!

Membership

Our membership is comprised of over 700 adults ranging in age from 18 to 85+.  Club members primarily reside in the following New Jersey counties:  Morris,  Sussex, Hunterdon, Essex, Somerset, Warren, Union, and Passaic. Membership is open to anyone at least 18 years old. See where our members live, get a membership application, or JOIN on-line.

Tours

We have developed cue sheets for over 600 distinct tours, each beginning from one of 25+ geographically diverse starting points.  Tours vary in length from 15 to 100+ miles, and have varying terrains from flat to very challenging.

Scheduled Rides

Rides are scheduled all year long, depending upon available daylight, as follows:

  • Morning rides on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday year round.
  • Evening rides on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening between April and October.
  • Ad-hoc rides are frequently added to the schedule.
Ride paces range from beginning (Casual) to very fast (A-pace).

The web ride schedule is always 100% up-to-date (including ad-hoc rides).   Our Ride Leaders hand out cue sheets at the beginning of each ride. Canceled rides are deleted from the web schedule immediately, so check the web site before you travel to the ride if the weather is questionable.

You can almost always find a scheduled group ride that matches your biking skills. Click on Ride Schedule, above, for information on pace and terrain definitions.

Event Rides

Through The Morris Area Freewheelers Foundation, we run the Revolutionary Ramble charity ride for the benefit of our local ambulance squads.  This event offers multiple mileage rides for novice to expert bicyclists, great food, stocked rest stops, SAG support, and a post-ride Expo. It typically runs the second weekend in June.

Multi-Day Rides

We run multi-day rides organized by a ride leader at various geographic locations.  These are usually not local rides.  They give you an opportunity to see various parts of the country from your bike.  Watch the newsletter for new ride announcements.

Minors As Guest Riders

Minors (under 18) are allowed on rides provided they are accompanied by a member parent or guardian, who must stay with them during the ride.

Social Events

Club social events included in your membership dues are:

.    Two Picnics, Spring and Fall
.    Pizza Party for active Ride Leaders and Other Volunteers
.    Fall Annual Meeting with Guest speakers
.    Winter Holiday Party
.    Spring Ride Season Kickoff Meeting

At these events, drawings are held for biking accessories and gift certificates valid at our sponsoring bike shops.
