Comments

A

18+ mph

Hard fast riding, few stops, slower riders will be dropped, frequent pace lines.

B+

16.5 - 18 mph

For very fit cyclists, slower riders will be dropped, leader rides at listed pace, occasional pace lines

B

15 - 16.5 mph

For experienced cyclists who want an easier pace, up to 20 miles between rest stops, leader sweeps no slower than 11 mph. Will only be planned in May to November and will not be planned on weekends and holidays, but can be proposed as an ad hoc at any time.

“Average Speed” is the average speed while riding. Speeds on flat terrain are typically noticeably higher. Ride leaders will ride continuously between scheduled rest stops and will maintain at least the minimum average speed for the pace of the ride.

Ride leaders on A, B+, B, TA and TB rides are not required to sweep, so riders on such rides should either be confident that they can keep up with the pace of the group or be comfortable riding independently.

Ride Leaders on C, D+, D, TC, TD and TE pace rides are required to sweep. However, riders on those rides must be able to average at least that minimum speed, making only the scheduled rest stops, or they may be dropped.

In selecting a ride, riders should consider the terrain of a ride because it may affect their ability to ride at the listed pace. Riders who have not previously ridden with the Club are advised to select rides that do not challenge their estimate of their riding ability.

Novice riders should generally start off with a D-pace ride.

The Club’s terrain ratings are as follows:

A = Very Hilly; B = Moderately hilly to Rolling with some steep terrain; C = Rolling; D = Flat

Please note that, when available, we list the total climb for the ride in the schedule (after you login).  Total climb is the total uphill climb ignoring the downhills.
