Calling all Ride Leaders

MAFW ride leaders are the foundation of our club and we do have a great group of experienced ride leaders.

If you lost your status as a ride leader due to inactivity and want to be reinstated just email me and I will immediately reinstate you.  I apologize for any misunderstanding.

If you never were a ride leader and want to become one please contact me about steps to become a ride leader.  Don’t worry if you don’t know how to change a flat.  We can teach you.  Many of us find being a ride leader very rewarding.

Stay safe,

Manny

MAFW Spring Kick Off Meeting – April 20th

The MAFW Spring Kickoff meeting is right around the corner and the weather is getting better by the day.

Please take the time to register for the Spring Kick Off, as it allows us to ensure we are properly set up for the meeting.  In addition, please sign up for one of the great rides we have planned for you all.  During the meeting, we will look back at some of the changes we implemented in 2023 and the exciting enhancements we have planned for 2024.  I am happy to report that you do not have to listen to me talk for the entire session.  We are excited to share a couple of great videos and we will have a guest speaker.   Brendan Poh the owner of Cycle Craft in Parsippany NJ and the acting Board President for the Revolutionary Ramble will be stopping by to discuss the importance of a proper bike fit.   The presentation is titled “Demystifying the dark art of bike fitting – a common sense guide to getting it right.”  If you do not know Brendan, he is a great businessman, loves bicycling and has been a strong supporter of the Club and Revolutionary Ramble for many years.

The Board and I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

Regards

Joseph Reo

MAFW President

5 BORO BIKE RIDE MAY 5

Attached below is link to sign up for the NY 5 Boro Bike Tour. After registering, please sign up on the MAFW schedule so we know who is attending and maybe arrange to do the ride together. Since ride starts near Battery Park Manhattan and ends in Staten Island recommend you might want to park in Staten Island and take Staten Island Ferry to Manhattan.

I set up the rides for the Spring Kickoff from Brookside.  Last time we held Spring Kickoff at Brookside was 4/16/2016 and looking forward to a great meeting and rides.  If you want to lead one of the rides, please contact me.  If you have an idea for a different ride, please let me know.  Tentative start time for the rides is 11 am and could be later or sooner depending on when meeting ends and cleanup is complete.

RIDE COORDINATOR UPDATES

WOODFERN BRIDGE-Bridge is “officially” closed.  During a recent storm a tree fell on the bridge causing damage to the upper supports.  Tree has been removed.  Easy detour is Woodfern to Amwell to Blackpoint.  You can probably cross the bridge if no construction workers are present but that is your decision.

NESHANIC STATION-When you cross the White Bridge from Neshanic Station you can’t make a left onto River Road to get to Opie Road due to construction.  Recommend making a right and then a quick left onto Mill Ln to get to Opie/River Rd.  I happen to like Mill Ln better than Opie.

OTTO BURGER-Bad news is Brick Farm Market in Hopewell has closed and moved a short distance down the road and has significantly downsized with less to offer.   Good news is Otto Burger has moved into the vacated spot and I have been told that they have pastries, coffee, etc to offer.  I will be checking it out soon.

RIDE LEADER-If anyone is interested in helping MAFW and becoming a ride leader please contact me.

Dance party is Saturday night, not Friday as one misprint stated

It was brought to our attention that one page on our web site had the dance party listed as Friday rather than Saturday 3/16. (Thank you, Jane!)

If you go Friday it may be fun, but there will be no Freewheelers there!

The correct info is:

Flash Mob Dance Party Freewheelers Flash Mob Dance Party Saturday 3/16 7PM ! The Laundromat Speakeasy 4 Dehart St. Morristown. Be there! Bring a friend or potential new member: ) No cover, live dance band, cash bar, Pizza or something interesting by MAFW. Link below to sign up so we can estimate food. Please come so we can continue to plan events like this: ) https://mafw.org/events/freewheelers-flash-mob-dance-party/
